The Brief:

Google UK and Mind wanted to team up to encourage more open, healthy approaches to mental health in their workplaces.

The Approach:

Mental health initiatives in the workplace usually consist of posters, self-help guides, or a seminar focused on helping us become informed. While these actions are valuable, they were repeatedly rinsed and reused. We wanted to deliver something which broke this status-quo, in order to truly pull in real attention to mental health discussions.

By reaching out to real Google and Mind employees who had children in their families, we asked these children to send in drawings or stories all about their feelings. Children are well-known for their innocent, honest expressions and depictions of their world - this candid, open expression of emotions and mental health was exactly what this project aimed to promote.

With a collection of their drawings and stories, we compiled an illustrated book which highlighted the importance of talking about and honouring our emotions.

Bringing the feelings to life

ILLUSTRATION SOLUTION

We adopted a raw, human-drawn illustration style and imaginative layout designs to help the stories and drawings come alive.

Drawing with an authentic, emotion-led hand amplified the focus on sharing human experiences.

The Book of Feelings was received as an evocative and uplifting reminder of the importance of understanding our emotions, and making room for

mental health practices.
